THUNDERBIRDS PROCESSING ABRUPT END TO SEASON
The United Tribes Women's Basketball team had aspirations to make a run in the 2020 NJCAA National Tournament, but those took a back seat to the new coronavirus concerns that caused the NJCAA tournaments to be cancelled.
The United Tribes women's basketball team was getting ready for a film session Thursday when the news came that the NJCAA National Tournament was postponed to April 20.
After coming off a huge end-of-the-year run, the Thunderbirds captured the Region XIII and Northwest Plains District Championships and were looking to face the #1 team in the Nation, North Iowa Area, in the opening round of the 2020 NJCAA National Tournament. The United Tribes Women's basketball team hadn't made the national tournament since 2016. For the Thunderbirds, memories of the 2019-20 season will be a mix of highs and a "what if?" about their NJCAA Tournament chances.
The UTTC women won their final four games in 2019-20, including a resounding win over Central Community College in the Northwest Plains District final. The Thunderbirds went 13-17 overall in a highly elite Mon-Dak Conference consisting of primarily DI NJCAA teams.
On Monday, the NJCAA made the decision to cancel all upcoming basketball championships as well as spring competition, effective immediately.
