United Tribes Women's Basketball Punches Ticket to 2020 NJCAA National Tournament
United Tribes Women's Basketball defeats Central Community College 77-53 and earns second NJCAA National Tournament appearance.
A 15-0 run in the first two minutes sent the Region XIII Champions, United Tribes Technical College, to a 77-53 win over Region IX Champions, Central CC, Sunday afternoon in the Northwest Plains District Championship at James Henry Gymnasium. It was the third District Championship appearance in school history, twice under head coach, Kelsey Peltier.
The Raiders end the season at 14-14, while United Tribes Technical College moved to 13-17. The thunderbirds will face the #1 team in the nation opening round of the 2020 NJCAA National Tournament, North Iowa Area. The Trojans have a record of 32-1.
Karissa DuShane led the Bison with 20 points, while Amryn Brown had 15. LaTosha Thunderhawk finished with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Brown added six boards. Hannah Golus displayed another double double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Monica Brooks led the Raiders with a game-high 22 points.
UTTC was 34-of-85 (40.0%) from the field and 6-of-17 from 3-point range. Central Community College was 19-of-73 (26%) from the floor and 3-of-20 (26.0%) from downtown. UTTC was 3-of-4 (75.0%) at the free throw line, while CCC was 12-of-20 (60.0%). The Thunderbirds had a 15-11 advantage in points off turnovers and 28-9 advantage in the paint.
