MYSTICS RALLY LATE TO DEFEAT UTTC WOMEN
Mystics control the boards to edge Thunderbirds 95-90 late Monday
Perennial Mon-Dak Conference power Bismarck State outscored the United Tribes women's basketball team 27-14 in the fourth quarter Monday night, as the Mystics downed the Thunderbirds 60-52 at the James Henry Gymnasium.
The loss drops UTTC to 7-12 overall and 1-5 in Mon-Dak Conference play. The Mystics improved to 19-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play. UTTC returns to action on Thursday, as the Thunderbirds host Dawson Community College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at the James Henry Gymnasium in Bismarck. The Buccaneers are 11-12 overall and 3-3 in the Mon-Dak Conference after a 69-56 loss to Miles City Sunday.
Karissa DuShane led the Thunderbirds with 22 points and 9 assists, while LaTosha Thunderawk joined her in double figures with 19. Hannah Golus collected her fourth double-double of the season with 15 points, 11 rebounds, while sophomore, Kierra Johnson, netted 5 triples for 17 points.
The Thunderbirds were 36-of-90 (40.0%) from the field and 8-of-30 (26.7%) from 3-point range. Bismarck State was 32-of-87 (36.8%) from the floor and 5-of-16 (31.3%) from downtown. The Mystics were 26-of-35 (74.3%) at the free throw line, while UTTC was 10-of-14.
UTTC led 37-20 after the first quarter, as the Mystics ended the first frame on a 13-0 run. The Thunderbirds took a 55-51 lead into halftime and led 76-68 going into the fourth quarter.
