United Tribes Technical College Defeats Bismarck State College in City Showdown
Thunderbirds win 84-70
In a highly anticipated matchup for city bragging rights, the Bismarck State College men's basketball team faced off against United Tribes Technical College, with both teams eager to secure victory after splitting wins in previous encounters. However, it was United Tribes who emerged victorious in convincing fashion, dominating the second half to clinch a decisive 84-70 win.
The game started with both teams trading baskets and the first half saw a tight contest, marked by 10 lead changes and the score tied four times.
The game remained a back and forth contest for the first few minutes of the second half. A pivotal moment arose when a technical foul was called on the Thunderbirds' head coach and the Mystics' Garrett Bader stepped to the line, sinking one free throw, leaving the Thunderbirds trailing 56-54 with 12 minutes remaining.
Yet, when play resumed after the technical, the momentum swiftly shifted in favor of United Tribes. Embarking on a relentless 12-0 run over the next three minutes, the Thunderbirds seized control of the game, establishing a commanding 66-54 lead with nine minutes left on the clock. Although the Mystics managed to narrow the gap to four points with six minutes remaining, United Tribes blistering 30-12 run, capped off by a Houston Davis three-pointer, securing an 84-68 lead with less than a minute remaining proved to be too much.
Leading the charge for United Tribes was Davis, who led all scorers with 24 points, accompanied by 8 rebounds. Trae Hugs made big plays during the run and contributed 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Cayden Redfield added 12 points, 6 rebounds, and three assists, while Jacolby Pearson and Mark Fassett provided valuable contributions off the bench with 9 points each.
