United Tribes Wins 3rd Straight Conference Game at Lake Region
Thunderbirds win on the road 86-81
United Tribes made their second trip to Lake Region State College, escaping with an 86-81 win thanks to some timely defensive stops and shooting from Cayden Redfield.
In the game's opening minutes the Thunderbirds raced out to a 20-9 lead by the first media timeout. Lake Region chipped away and found themselves down only one point at halftime 46-45. Tribes again used an early run to take a 59-51 lead in the second half, but again the Royals closed the gap and the game was tight the rest of the way.
With the game tied at 79-79 and the shot clock running down, Redfield nailed a jump shot from the top of the key with 58 seconds to play. On the ensuing possession Redfield stole the ball and made another long jump shot to give the Thunderbirds an 83-79 lead with 45 seconds remaining.
Lake Regions Ginuwine Tropnas's dunk with 25 seconds to go cut the lead to 83-81 then fouled Tribes Trae Hugs on the next possession. Hugs made the first free throw and missed the second. Out of timeouts, the Royals raced the ball up the court and Harrison Raynor was able to get three off, but it missed short and the held on 86-81.
Redfield finished the game with 17 points, 4 steals, and 4 rebounds. Houston Davis continued his solid all around play with a game high 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. Jacolby Pearson (13) and Hugs (10) both reached double figures as well. Riley Spoonhunter had a game high 6 assists.
The Thunderbirds return to Bismarck and make their second trip of the year across town to Bismarck State College on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
