Thirteen players reach double figures in high scoring contest
The United Tribes Thunderbirds and Dawson Buccaneers basketball game turned into a track meet on Monday night in Bismarck, putting up a total of 227 points on the scoreboard. The Thunderbirds trailed most of the game with the two teams trading runs and had two possessions with the score 112-105, but came up empty on both. The frenetic pace slowed down the final minute and Dawson made free throws to seal the contest 118-109.
In the first half, United Tribes shot 47% from the field and scored 52 points, led by Houston Davis and Ty Moccasin with 11 each. Dawson shot 52% and scored 62 points, led by 11 points each from Seth Amunrud and Demetric Kindle. The Thunderbirds went into half-time facing a 61-52 deficit. In the second half, the visiting Bucs shot a blistering 64.2% from the field and 55.6% from long range. Cayden Redfield and Trae Hugs helped the Thunderbirds keep pace by scoring a combined 28 points in the half before eventually falling 118-109.
Seven Thunderbirds reached double figures, led by 20 points from Hugs and Davis. Redfield had his first double double of the season finishing with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Also reaching double figures for United Tribes were Mark Fassett (12), Charles Lachapelle (12), Moccasin (11), and Hudda Curry (10).
United Tribes falls to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Thunderbirds return to action Wednesday night hosting league foe Miles Community College at 7:30pm.
