United Tribes secures number 1 seed with 20th win over Williston
Second half surge lifts Thunderbirds to 89-78 win
United Tribes used a second half surge to pull away from the Tetons of Williston State College 89-78 on Monday evening.
The Tetons got off to a hot start by nailing 9 of their 15 attempts from the three point line in the first half and led 45-43 at the break. In the second half the Thunderbirds tightened up on defense and outscored the Tetons 39-21 to take an 82-66 lead on a DK Middleton drive to the basket with 2:43 to play that put the game away. After the hot start in the first half the Tetons shot 2-17 from three in the second half.
Cayden Redfield came back from injury and had his third double double of the season scoring 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Jesse White stayed hot with 22 points and 7 assists. Sylvester Union had 16 points on 7-10 shooting and Middleton again reached double figures in rebounds with 10, dished out 7 assists, and scored 8 points.
The win clinches the number 1 seed out of the west for the Region XIII tournament at Inver Grove Heights, MN on March 4th and 5th. The Thunderbirds are now 20-7 on the year and 14-5 in the Mon Dak Conference. They host Dakota College Bottineau on Thursday at 7:30 pm for the final home contest of the year before traveling to North Dakota State College of Science on Sunday to close out the regular season.
