United Tribes holds on for 83-79 win
United Tribes jumped out to 46-30 lead at the half against the visiting Royals of Lake Region State College. After the break the Royals who trail only league leading Dawson Community College in the standings roared back using an opening 14-2 run to close the gap to 48-44. The lead would never be more than double digits the rest of the way. With the Thunderbirds clinging to an 81-79 lead with 18 seconds to play Tyree Whitcomb connected on a difficult shot from the post to essentially seal the victory for United Tribes. Whitcomb finished the game with 13 points and 6 rebounds.
Lane Johnson and Dayson Kohlus also hit timely baskets and led the balanced scoring attack with 15 and 14 points. Also reaching double figures were Cayden Redfield with 11, and Khalil Grant with 10.
United Tribes heads across town on Thursday for a rematch with Bismarck State College. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
