The home team prevailed in the men's game as the Thunderbirds beat BSC for the second time this season 128-114. Nick Jiles nearly posted his second straight triple double in the win for United Tribes
Jiles nearly did it again, this time in even more spectacular fashion.
United Tribes' freshman point guard came just three rebounds short of his second straight triple double as the Thunderbirds topped the Mystics in a typical shootout between the teams.
"Seems like every time Tribes and BSC play, at least the ones I've been involved with, it's like this up in the 100s," United Tribes head coach Pete Conway said. "The shots were falling, for both teams."
Montgomery led the way, pouring in 34 points. But he did much more than that. The Lakeland, Fla., product also dished out 12 assists to go with seven rebounds and three steals.
"He was pretty amazing," Conway said of Jiles. "He was in control of the game all night. A couple times it tightened up in the second half, but he kept making the right play all night."
Several of Jiles' assists went to Cecelio Montgomery, who finished with 33 points.
"Cecilio's had some great games for us this year," Conway said. "The thing about Cecelio is, he's a workhorse. He works about as hard as any player I've had. He does a lot for us on the defensive end, too."
Tate Bear had another strong game as well. Bear totaled 25 points and seven rebounds. The Thunderbirds shot a blistering 60 percent from the field (50-83), including 14 of 27 from 3-point range. They had 23 assists on their 50 makes.
"We shared the ball really well," Conway said. "We were making the extra pass to give up good shots to get great shots."
The Mystics played their part in the scorefest.
BSC made 39 of its 81 shots, including 16 from deep on 33 attempts.
Jamison Kramer continued to score at a high level with a team-best 29 points. Joe Jahner Jr. was right behind with 27 points. Kyler McGillis added 19. Jahner and McGillis had six assists each.
Both teams are back in action on Thursday in Bismarck. BSC hosts Miles Community College, while United Tribes faces Dawson Community College.
