Thunderbird Women Fall at Bismarck State
Turnovers continue to plague Lady Thunderbirds
To be special and to be significant in a college basketball season, a team must identify a big moment when they see one. Bismarck State did just that with an impressive victory over United Tribes Technical College at the BSC Armory.
Bismarck State raced out to a 67-32 halftime lead Thursday night and never looked back, as the Mystics beat the United Tribes women's basketball team 103-65. The Mystics entered the game ranked 1st in the Mon-Dak Athletic Conference. Bismarck State also has the individual leading scorer in the conference, Amber Stevahn (24.8ppg).
The Thunderbirds dropped to 9-17 overall and 3-10 in conference play. Bismarck State improved to 25-4 overall and 11-2 in conference play. The Thunderbirds need to finish higher than Dakota College at Bottineau in the Mon-Dak Conference standings to host the Region 13 Semifinal game on February 26. United Tribes will host Miles City on Sunday, Feb. 23. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. in Bismarck. Miles City enters the game with a 10-3 conference record and 18-11 overall.
Kierra Johnson led the Thunderbirds with 15 points, while Karissa DuShane joined her in double figures with 13 points. Amryn Brown also contributed 12 points in the loss.
The Mystics 103 points were the most points allowed by the Thunderbirds this season. Bismarck State was paced by Mon-Dak leading scorer, Amber Stevahn, with 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. Bismarck State's defense forced the Thunderbirds to commit 30 turnovers leading to 39 points while BSC had a low 9 turnovers leading to 6 points for the Thunderbirds.
