United Tribes rallies to win 7th straight against Miles CC
UTTC wins 86-84
United Tribes was able to rally from 14 points down in the second half to win their 7th game in a row and 13th of their last 15 in another one possession contest 86-84 against the visiting Pioneers of Miles Community College.
Trailing 41-34 at halftime the Thunderbirds went on a 12-4 run to take the 46-45 on a Tristin Davis corner three with 17:40 to play. However, over the next three minutes the Pioneers answered with 15-0 run to regain control 60-46 with 14:36 left in the game. After a Thunderbirds timeout DK Middleton found Jayce Archambault for back to back threes cutting the deficit to 60-52. Tribes continued to chip away and eventually took the lead 80-79 with 1:59 to play on a Davis free throw. The Pioneers Denzel Kabasele answered with a deep contested three putting the Pioneers back in front 82-80. The Thunderbirds Sylvester Union responded with driving bucket to tie the game at 82, but Kabasele was able to get to the basket on the next possession to regain the lead 84-82 with 41 seconds remaining. With 29 seconds to go Tribes Jayden Yankton made a driving layup and was fouled. He completed the three point play putting the Thunderbirds up 85-84. United Tribes was able to get a stop and Union was fouled and made the front end of the 1 and 1 giving Tribes a two point cushion 86-84 with 6 seconds remaining and Miles needing to go the length of the court. After a timeout the Pioneers were able to get the ball in the hands of the games leading scorer Kabasele, but he was unable to get a shot off and the Thunderbirds escaped with an 86-84 win.
The Thunderbirds again had a balanced scoring attack with Archambault hitting for 16, Davis 14, Cayden Redfield 14, Yankton 13, Union 12, and Middleton 11. Middleton finished with 9 assists and Union added 8 rebounds.
United Tribes returns to action February 13th in a cross town matchup at Bismarck State College. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
