United Tribes Set to Host Region XIII Semifinals
The United Tribes Technical College Thunderbirds will host Dakota College Bottineau tonight at 7:30 in the Thunderdome in the Region XIII Semifinal. The winner advances to the Region XIII Championship game at the winner of Dakota County Technical College and Bay College on March 3rd.
The Thunderbirds and Lumberjacks split thier season series with each team winning on their home court. The fast paced Thunderbirds finished 16-14 and fourth in the Mon Dak Conference. They led the Mon Dak Conference in several statistical categories including scoring with 97.6 per game, rebounding with 46 a game, and three pointers made. They come into tonights semifinal after winning three of their last four games including an overtime thriller at Miles Community College to end the regular season.
Rob McClain Jr. and Montel Carlow lead the Thunderbirds into the post season. The prolific sophmores were the two leading scorers in the Mon Dak Conference with Carlow pouring in 24 per game and McClain Jr. 23.3. Carlow finished the regular season as the nations 5th leading scorer and McClain finished 7th in the nation. McClain expanded his game this year and in addition to being the second leading scorer in the conference he led the conference in many statistical categories. He led the leauge in rebounds with 11.1, steals with 2.3, blocks with 2.2, and he finished in a tie for third in assists with 4.7 a game. He also led the nation in field goals made with 296 while shooting 58.6% from the field. In addition to leading the conference in scoring, Carlow also led the nation in three pointers made and free throw percentage. He finished with 124 three pointers and shot a blistering 91.8% from the free throw line.
The women will host Dakota College Bottineau at 5:30 followed by the men at 7:30.
