THUNDERBIRDS NAMED ALL CONFERENCE AND ALL REGION
Amaury Matthews and Xavier Norris Honored
Amaury Matthews and Xavier Norris were both named to the Mon-Dak All Conference team and to the All Region XIII Team.
Amaury Matthews is a 6'1 Freshman guard from Orlando, FL by way of Dobson High in Mesa, AZ. The versatile guard led the Thunderbirds in many statistical categories including scoring, assists, and steals. Matthews led the way with 20.4 points, 5 asssists, and 4 steals per game. He was also the second leading rebounder hauling in 5.6 rebounds per game. He went over 30 points three times this season including a 38 point outburst at Dawson and had 35 to lead the Thunderbirds to a semifinal win over Dakota College Bottineau and a trip to the Region XIII championship game.
Xavier Norris is a 6'1" Freshman from Eagle Butte, SD and attended Cheyenne-Eagle Butte High. The highly efficient guard averaged 19 points per game and scored over 30 points four times this season. He was named Conference Player of the Week in December when he shot an astonishing 76% the field and 75% from three in route to averaging 36 points per game for the week. He continued his consistent play throughout the season shooting 54% from the field, 48% from three, and 89% from the free throw line for the year. He also grabbed 4.4 rebounds and dished out 3.4 assists per game.
The other members of the the Mon-Dak All Conference team were James Batemon (NDSCS MVP), Cedric Boone (LRSC), Jamil Jackson (WSC), Gach Gach (NDSCS), Abdul-Hakim Fofana (DCB), Brody Nieuwsma (BSC), Jake Johnson, (NDSCS), Terell Alfred (DCB), and Jordan Bolton (LRSC).
